At a dictionary party the other evening,
a lexicographer told me a story about an error that appeared in the
first edition of a well-known dictionary for learners of English. It
seems that the editors, enthralled by their magnificent corpora, had
included as a headword what must have been either a typo or a data
processing error:![]() The word was dropped from the dictionary's later editions, I hink. (June 23, 2003)
